Black Ops 3 Ditches Campaign on Last Gen

The time has come to once again begin our Q4 ranting session about how bad Call of Duty is and how Activision is only interested in siphoning every last cent our of our wallets by taking advantage of the worlds addiction to a copy paste game that they shove down our throats every year.

Seriously though….This year we have a pretty legitimate reason to rant.

It was just announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will launch on previous Gen platforms ( Xbox 360 and PS3) WITHOUT a campaign mode.

That’s right; you will not be able to play the story of black Ops 3 unless you buy a next gen version of the game ( XBOX One and PS4). Being a Gamer who own a Next Gen console this doesn’t so much bother me and add to that fact that I have had my fill of that franchise even more-so doesn’t bother me. What about all the gamer’s out there who haven’t migrated to a Next Gen machine? Will this announcement be enough to turn them away from the franchise in favor of other games coming out this year?

Keep in mind that most of the AAA games this holiday season are not making there way to last gen either ( Halo 5, Star Wars Battlefront, Assassins Creed Syndicate, Rainbow Six Siege) but none of those games have the massive following that Call of Duty does.

No Campaign for XBOX 360/PS3 players 😦

Do you think this will affect sales numbers or will this spur the last gen gamer’s to finally invest in a new console? Personally I think that Activision is just being greedy at this point. They could have just pulled the plug but instead they are selling an obviously incomplete game package for $50 and they know it will still sell. In fact it the announcement will probably go unnoticed by most and they will find out after they get it and by that time the only person who will benefit from it will be Gamestop with their Used Game trade in Program.

Sound off in the comments and give me your thoughts on this rather unorthodox marketing strategy.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a truly next-generation experience designed from day one to harness the full potential of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Black Ops 3 pushes the boundaries of the franchise to new levels across all modes of play on next generation hardware.

As we announced back in June, we know that there are still fans waiting to make the switch to the newest console hardware and developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology have been working tirelessly to bring as much of the Black Ops 3 gameplay as possible to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign. The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.

Delivering the best possible gameplay experience on all platforms is always our highest priority. With that in mind, Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 players can continue to look forward to a new experience of Black Ops 3 multiplayer, including the new momentum-based, chain-movement system, as well as the all-new Specialist class of 9 Black Ops soldiers, which fundamentally change the way players engage in combat.

Black Ops 3 players on PS3 and Xbox 360 will also have a chance to immerse themselves in the all-new Zombies mode, called “Shadows of Evil,” which features a 1940’s film-noir inspired adventure that takes the signature Black Ops Zombies gameplay to a new level.

Fans should note that other features built to leverage the next generation hardware like the new Weapon Paint Shop and the new suite of eSports tools will only be available on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 and include a bonus download for the original Call of Duty: Black Ops (bonus download availability may vary by region), the game that launched this series.
