Star Wars Battlefront lets you play as Boba Fett

Star Wars Battlefront is a dream game come true. Now granted this isn’t the first time we have had the chance to play in a Star Wars sandbox ( The game has been around a long time on past generation hardware) but for a new generation of gamer’s it will be their first exposure to this game. The most exciting aspect of the game is the ability to step into the shoes of the galaxy’s most iconic Heroes and Villain’s. Dice has only revealed a few characters so far but its a no brainer that we will get more down the road either through DLC or exansions ( Han Solo and Chewbacca are a given !)

Here is what Dice studios has to say about fan favorite Boba Fett.

Everyone has their own idea of what Boba Fett is about.  At least, that’s what DICE Senior Producer Jamie Keen thinks: “He became an instant favorite on the floor. All the developers at our office have their own determined, passionate view on what Boba Fett should be.”
All fans of Star Wars™ – not just DICE developers – have a special place in their hearts for this one particular bounty hunter. As one of the iconic villains playable in Star Wars™ Battlefront™, Boba Fett is designed to be a dreaded force in battle. His mobility and deadly cache of weaponry should send you fleeing if you see him on the battlefront. Conversely, the chance to walk in his boots and try out his arsenal is the fulfillment of a quintessential Star Wars fantasy.
His jetpack lets Boba Fett fly around the maps, making him extremely mobile and gives him the ability to take shots from the air with his EE-3 Carbine Rifle. He comes equipped with two wrist launchers, one armed with a rocket – perfect for long-range attacks – and one with a Flame Blast attack for when things get up close and personal.
In selecting Boba Fett’s in-game arsenal, the team relied both on what’s shown in the original trilogy and beyond. Keen explains:
“As originally portrayed in the films, Boba Fett has a wealth of gadgets at his disposal but we only see him use a fraction of these in the films. There’s much more than the jetpack and blaster rifle going on. Boba Fett’s got a disintegrator pistol, a flame pack in one arm, rockets, dart launchers, and even lasers. So there was a lot to choose from before we wound up with the final loadout.”
Depending on your preferred play style, Boba Fett may very well become one of your favorite Hero/Villain characters. If you favor charging with melee attacks, characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader might be better. However, if you want to move around swiftly, keeping some distance from your enemies, Boba Fett is for you. Mastering Boba Fett’s airborne abilities will allow you to escape death above the ground battle on vertical levels such as the tree huts on the forest moon of Endor. The flying ability had to be perfectly balanced, though:
“When we first designed Boba Fett’s flight pack, it quickly became clear that the ability to fly unhindered was very powerful compared to other characters who didn’t have that ability,” Jamie Keen explains. “For instance, when Boba Fett was facing off with Luke Skywalker in early development, it was unbalanced as there were no limitations placed upon his flight capability. That’s why we’ve added a fuel mechanic which forces Boba Fett to land from time to time before he can take off again.”
If you’re facing off against Luke and your opponent can anticipate these landings, you might find yourself in a close encounter situation. But, once you’re up in the the air again, you can continue to take pot shots at Luke, which can in turn be deflected – a good example of the tactical dynamic the fights between Heroes and Villains contain.
Once you’ve had some time with Boba Fett, the flow of battle will be you shooting at enemies with your EE-3, and then punctuating that with either a rocket or flame attack whether you’re on the ground or in the sky. The chance to play around with different attack patterns like these is something the DICE team is very excited about.
“One of the things I enjoy watching is seeing people chain attacks together and using the systems to their best. Managing cooldowns is part of it, too. We’ve seen players coming up with tactics that we haven’t thought about, and that is truly awesome,” says Jamie Keen.
Your chance to try out your tactics with Boba Fett comes November 17 when the Heroes and Villains experience of Star WarsBattlefront arrives. More info on other characters is coming – so stay tuned.
