Back in 2001 I stumbled onto a new Miniature Game called ” Mage Knight” It was the first game in a growing line of games created by a company called WizKids. The game was a fantasy miniature game that was unique in the market due to it being the only game to package pre-painted figures in a random box that up till then had been the domain of Collectible Card games like Magic and Pokemon.
Expanding on the success of Mage Knight, Wiz Kids acquired the Marvel Licence and launched ” HeroClix”.
The main draw to these games was the extensive range of figures that where ready to play out of the box without a lengthy read through a game manual. Each figure had its full set of game statistics embedded on its ” clickable” base.
The game was a huge hit and is still going strong to this day after several thousands of figures across a mind numbing amount of established properties ranging from Marvel,Star Trek, DC Heroes, Halo, Gears of War and many others hitting the market.
I haven’t touched the game in about 13 years but after hearing that the latest property to get licensed is none other than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , I may have to dive back into the hobby and see what I have been missing. Below is the Official Announcement.
