This game launched a couple of years ago on the XBOX 360 as an exclusive download from the MS Marketplace. I never bought the full game but did play a timed demo of it one night. WOW….I should have bought it but luckily its coming to XBOX One at the end of this month.
If I was to summarize this game for a non informed player I would have to be really cheesy and just call it a ” Walking Dead RPG”. The game tackles the Zombie Apocalypse in the best possible way a video game should ; as an RPG. Survival, resource management and permanent player death are at the core of the experience and players are tasked with keeping themselves and their companions safe in a world turned against them. Base Building, food, supplies and relationships are all metrics that are plugged into this nail biting RPG. Player death is implemented in the coolest possible way I have ever seen in an RPG. Essentially if you die you are ” re-spawned” as a new survivor that is in your group. All of the survivors in the game have distinct personality sand stats creating a ” Walking Dead style” game wherein you start to bond and grow attached to them. This only ramps up the tension when the zombies show up.
The saddest thing about this game and its biggest disappointing feature or lack thereof is that it isn’t Co Op. This is a single player experience only even thought it practically screams to be a game you will want to play with friends.TIP: Make a XBL party with your friends who are playing the game and play ” alongside” them while chatting. It will create a sense of being co op even though you aren’t in the same game world.
One can only hope this is a requested feature that resonates with the developer when the sequel is rolled out ( Microsoft published the game for the development studio that created the game so its safe to say we will see that happen)
In the meantime I HIGHLY recommend you pick up a copy of State of Decay when it launches on April 28th and see if you have what it takes to survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
